Collar and Lead
If you have brought an Akita puppy home, immediately fit her with a sturdy collar. Attach her lead to the collar. The collar will help to identify your puppy. Let her drag the lead around while moving. She will be used to feel and bear the weight of lead on the collar. Soon she will be comfortable with collar and lead. Now when she is in comfort with lead, hold the lead in your hand and follow her around. It will not let her frighten from someone walking alongside her. And it is again a very important part of training an Akita puppy.
Crate Training an Akita Puppy
Put your Akita’s crate in that area which is highly disturbance free. It is the general tendency of Akitas to be somewhat territorial especially in the concern of their personal space. So with crate in peaceful area they can rest well. Put there in some toys of her choice to save her from boredom during rest.
Feeding Schedule
You should put your Akita puppy on a feeding schedule. If feeding is unscheduled you will be impossible for you to monitor the intake of Akitas as more or less they are piggish eaters. Feed her daily on fixed time. Make sure her approach to clean water.

Reserve a portion of space as her potty area. This will make her recognize the area for her potty and will go there whenever she needs.

Potty Training an Akita Puppy
Growing puppy requires frequent trips to potty area. If her trips are not managed accordingly you will face accidents. Be sure that your puppy goes outside after each intake and upon walking. It is the time when she needs going out most. Care that nothing should distract her from going out. Praise her each time she does so. It is again the most important part of training an Akita puppy.
Commands
Just start from a simple command. Simple commands can make your puppy more obedient one.Sit, stay, come, lie down and heel are priceless commands to start with and better start when your Akita is young. Do not rush the commands. Just take one. Teach it for 2-3 days. Now add the next one and let both goes for a week. Now add the third one and let them go for 10 or 15 days depending upon the progress of your puppy. Revise the previous ones and add the next and so on. Always give more time to new command than to the revision of previous ones.
Best start from lie down command. Hold the treat in your hand, while giving command to lie down, move the treat toward the ground. Your puppy is expected to follow the treat. As soon as she follows, give her treat and praise immediately. Repeat it many times until she does the skill without any lure. Teaching and rewarding on performance of a skill should go on while training an Akita Puppy.
Socialization
Your Akita puppy should be fist fully vaccinated, and then taken out with you to various places, whenever and where-ever you can take her for outings, for example market, petrol pump etc. If she is allowed to see and contact people then she will never feel shy.
