Akita can be attributed as the greatest of all dogs because it gives its coat for warmth, guards the children, and protects men from danger. Akitas are well-revered for these beneficent characteristics.

Akita is too intelligent to get bored

In addition being very royal the Akita is also very intelligent. Akita does not tolerate any nonsense being intelligent. Her being intelligent many times push her into boredom. You must wary of Akita’s boredom, because it can spill over into problems for her mental health. Boredom easily can cause them destructive and aggressive if they are not having anything to do. If plenty of exercise is given to them, they can feel happy in the apartments. Akita are often excited when see their owners, often wiggle around and make happy grunts.

Do not let them be alone for very long

As Akita is very loyal to its owner, and is bored due to her intelligence, she usually feels an attachment to the owner. So it is important to spend a lot of time with her because they are not used to being alone for very long. You will have to do this keeping in the mind the Akita behavior.

Akitas are pack dogs

Akitas are pack dogs, and they like to be dominant too. In ‘dog society’, a dog must earn its place close to the pack leader. The pack leader would never wants to cuddle up to a subordinate dog, it would be the other way around. Akitas being in pack dog category, they prefer the contact of other dogs they know well and especially their owner’s. However, dog owners should never send out these pleas for affection from their dogs, doting on them as if they were the pack leaders. This Akita behavior warns you that you should never raise an Akita up.

Akitas are aggressive toward smaller animals

Akitas can consider small animals prey and hunt them. They tend to be aggressive towards smaller animals like cats, rodents, birds, small wildlife and smaller dogs, particularly those of the same sex. If you keep other pets in your house, Akita should be given its own separate food bowl. Be wary that no animal, small children, or strangers are allowed near the Akita during its dinner. However, they can be happy with other dogs and animals provided they are socialized well.

Eye contact as a challenge

Many times Akitas consider eye contact a challenge and become aggressive. They are having this trait from their wolf ancestry and your dominant position in your family life any can be challenged by them time . This Akita behavior is never to be tolerated. You must correct it consistently with immediate response. Akita holding good temperament accepts discipline well from those it loves. Discipline does not mean beating . Do not put hours’ gap between discipline and an incident. Otherwise the dog can not associate the discipline with an incident , because it is not having such memory to recall after hours.

Use of the name of an Akita

Use name only to reward the Akita Behavior

If you call your Akita by its name with sweet voice, it is a reward for her. So when you are teaching her discipline you should never call her name during correction in sweet voice. Because it will work as a reward for unwanted Akita behavior, and this unwanted behavior is reinforced. Similarly during corrections you never use her name in harsh voice, because in this way she can be confused to associate her name to a punishment and will never feel her name so sweet as for reward. This confused behavior during training can develop unwanted complicacies  for her whole life. So if you are confused when and how to use her name, better you carry on discipline without using its name.

Let your Akita associate her name to love and affection but not punishment

Each time your Akita comes to you it should be rewarded with praise and love. Do not call your Akita to you for discipline that encourages your dog to not come when called. Do not use its name when discipling it, you want the Akita to associate its name with love and affection, not punishment.

In-activeness of Akitas

Akitas are not usually hyper active and fit into a sedentary household. You should go walking or playing in the yard with your Akita keeping in mind the in-activeness in ‘Akita Behavior’.
